REGISTER FOR A FREE INTRO CLASS — FALL 2025

They say the best things in life are free, and you can include a Merlin Works intro class in that category!

Coming up next week, we have a Free Intro to Stand-Up Comedy, Free Intro to Improv and a Free Intro to Storytelling happening one right after the other.

  • At the stand-up comedy intro, you’ll get a taste of joke writing through simple exercises that help make you comfortable sharing your perspective.
  • At the intro to storytelling, you’ll be introduced to one of our foolproof tools that takes any personal story from an anecdote, to worthy of its own screenplay.
  • At the free intro to improv, you’ll play fun games that get you out of your shell as you listen and connect with other creative, inspiring individuals.

Sign up for one, two or all three! This session, all intros take place on different nights so you can dip your toes into each option.

Register on our classes page, and get ready for 90 minutes of free fun! See you there – and reach out if you have questions!

Free Intro to Improv:

Great for those who want to learn how to think faster on their feet, be more spontaneous, reconnect with their creativity, be more confident speaking in public and have more fun!

  • Led by Tyler Brycelove – Tyler is a jam favorite, and our upcoming Improv 301 teacher. He is known for his enthusiastic support, depth of knowledge, and personalized feedback.

Monday, August 25th at 7pm at Creative Action

Free Intro to Storytelling:

Preview and play story games and share true, personal story snippets with the rest of the class.

  • Led by Paul Normandin – our upcoming Storytelling 101 teacher, and the former Dean of Merlin Works. Paul is a passionate teacher who is personally invested in his students’ growth, and he comes to the classroom with a wealth of writing, performance and even competitive storytelling experience.

Tuesday, August 26th at 7pm at Zach North

Free Intro to Stand-Up:

Try your hand at comedy and get on the mic in a supportive environment. Learn how jokes originate and see how you can mine your life for material.

  • Led by Valerie Nies – our upcoming Stand-Up 101 teacher, a show producer in Austin, and an author. (That last one isn’t relevant to the free intro, but isn’t it cool!?) Valerie’s students love her collaborative classroom environment, and her ability to hear your ideas and help you chisel them into a successful stand-up set.

Wednesday, August 27th at 7pm at Creative Action
