Women with Confidence: Improvised Mamet

I got to guest star in Confidence Men: Improvised Mamet last night. It was a lot of fun and different being the only woman in a male ensemble. And always different being a guest player. It makes me more likely to defer or hang back, not sure of what the group wants. But I had a lot of fun, playing with using metaphor, not directly talking about the big thing that we are all dealing with.

One of my favorite moments happened at the top of the show. It was set at a firehouse. Mike Ferstenfeld entered by sliding down the fireman’s pole. Asaf countered by mumbling “Wears a little thin.” Mike responded by saying “I don’t know. He went out.” And so a character named “Little Thin” was accidentally introduced. A minute later I enter, angrily looking for my husband. “Where’s Litte Thin? I need to talk to that asshole.”
There was a nice turnout for the show that ended up being more dramatic than comedic, and more open ended that tightly wrapped up. That’s the thing about getting a taste of a new format or troupe, it makes you want to go again, and do it better next time!
