Book Recommendation

My newest favorite book for improv is not about improv at all. It’s called The Writer’s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers by Christopher Vogler. It takes the work of Joseph Campbell and shows the direct application for creating original stories. There are chapters on all the different archetypes and all the phases of a hero’s journey. It’s the kind of book you read and you want everyone you improvise with to read too.

About Shana Merlin

Merlin Works is the brainchild of Shana Merlin: improviser, teacher, and performer. Since 1996, she’s been leading classes that stretch people’s imaginations, push them out of their comfort zones, and make them laugh out loud for hours at a time.
