Merlin Works Guide to Out of Bounds Comedy Festival

Out of Bounds is upon us. It’s the biggest week of improv all year. This year it’s bigger than ever with more venues, troupes, and shows.

The worst thing about it is trying to figure out what to see, since there are so many good shows, often at the same time. Plus, some of the venues are spread out, meaning you have to commit to one place for the night to ensure yourself a seat at multiple shows.

Here are my tips for what to see at the festival.

Not to be missed:

3 For All Sunday 7pm at Scottish Rite

Adsit and Lutz (with Get Up opening) Saturday at 10pm at Scottish Rite

Some great hits, especially if you don’t go see improv in Austin often:

Confidence Men and Drum Machine Friday at 8pm at Scottish Rite

The Amazon and The Milksop, 710 Split, That Summer in June Thursday 7:30 Hideout Downstairs

Top picks for the night
Squirrel Buddies, The Intentions, Rachel & Dave Wednesday 8:00 PM Hideout Upstairs

Ratliff and Jackson, Opposites, iZARZAMORA! Wednesday 9:30pm at The Insitution

Joy by default

Tuesday night stay at the Hideout

Monday hang out at the Scottish Rite.

All will be well.

Again, there are way more shows happening than I can recommend. So my real recommendation is to go out and see SOMETHING. Volunteer. Take a class. Hit up the parties. Make OOB your Labor Day Weekend thing!
