Improvised Songs (Part A)

In this class, you’ll learn the basics of improvised songs, including musical song structure and communicating with your accompanist. You don’t need to be a great singer to succeed in this class; you just need to love singing!

Continue your musical improv journey and dig deeper into the basics of improvised songs, including musical song structure and communicating with your accompanist. Get more practice on solos, duets, genres and styles.

Your Improv Singing Instructor

Marissa Wahkuna Ponder got her start as an actress, musician, and dancer as a child and began a life-long love of the Arts. With a BFA in Theatre Education and a Masters in Education, she spent 20 years as an all-age drama, music, and academics teacher. She trained in improv at Improv Asylum in Boston, and also performed long-form music improv with Boston’s Unscripted Musical Project. She began her joyful journey with Merlin Works in 2016, and continues to find teaching improv the career highlight of her life.

About Karina

Karina Dominguez is the registrar and assistant to the Dean of Merlin Works Institute of Improvisation. She graduated from the Merlin Works program in December 2011 with three performances of "The Amazing Improvised Race." She is a full-time actor with commercial credits such as Burger King, Ford, Totino's, H-E-B and various departments for the State of Texas. She was last seen in the opening episode of the second season of "American Crime", and as the welcome video ranger in the second season of HBO's "The Leftovers". She also performs on-stage in various Austin, TX plays including for Capital T Theatre, The Vortex, Vestige Group, Pollyanna Theater among others.
